Mergen and His Friends: A Nanai Folk Tale, 1974


A Nanai folktale from Siberia in which Mergen, a bold hunter, saves the lives of a deer, an ant and a sturgeon. In gratitude, they help him to perform three tasks set by the father of a lovely maiden, and he wins her as his bride.
